A frosted finish creates a soft, matte, semi-translucent surface that hides fingerprints and gives a calm premium appearance, achieved by moulded texture, spray coating or chemical etching.

Frosted surfaces are the most commonly requested premium finish after metallics, because they make plastic feel calmer and more expensive without adding weight. They also hide scratches and fingerprints better than gloss.
There are three routes: a moulded texture that costs nothing per unit, a spray-applied matte coat that allows any base colour, and chemical etching that produces the finest, most glass-like effect.

Printing on frosted surfaces
Matte surfaces scatter light, so printed colours read slightly softer and darker than on gloss. We approve print colour on the frosted production surface, not on a gloss sample, and where strong contrast is needed we combine a matte body with a gloss print or a hot-stamped logo.

Does a frosted finish hide scratches?
Yes — it is the main practical benefit alongside appearance. Fine handling marks that would be visible on gloss surfaces disappear into the texture.
Can frosted finishes be applied to PP, PET and acrylic?
Yes. Moulded texture works in any of them; spray matte coating requires the correct primer for adhesion on PP and HDPE, and chemical etch is mostly used on acrylic and PETG for a glass-like result.
Does frosting weaken the pack?
No. Moulded texture does not change mechanical performance, and spray coatings are cosmetic. Chemical etching removes a very small surface layer and is controlled so wall thickness stays within specification.
Is frosted packaging more expensive?
Moulded texture adds no per-unit cost beyond the initial mould texture work; spray coatings and chemical etching add cost per unit and require minimum quantities, typically from 3,000 pcs.
