Two fundamentals remain: the formula decides the format, and the fill line decides the tolerances. Trends change appearance and claims, not the engineering that keeps a pack from leaking on a production line.

Is airless packaging becoming standard for serums?
For high-activity formulas such as vitamin C and retinol, airless is increasingly the default because it removes oxidative exposure. For stable formulas, dropper bottles remain common and cheaper.
Are refill systems worth the development cost?
They can be, particularly for repeat-purchase SKUs with committed customers. They require mechanism validation and depend on refill price and availability; we recommend setting a reuse cycle target and testing it rather than assuming a benefit.
Will recycled content become mandatory in cosmetics packaging?
Requirements differ by market and retailer. Several large markets are introducing packaging rules that encourage or require recycled content and recyclable design, and individual retailers have their own targets — so specifying PCR-ready packaging early avoids redesign later.
How do trends affect lead times?
Airless and refill formats take longer to sample and validate, and decorated short runs remain slower than undecorated stock supply. Planning 10–16 weeks for a new airless or refill project is realistic.
