Lightweighting is the least glamorous sustainability measure and often the most effective: it applies to every unit, requires no customer behaviour change, and is measurable in grams of resin and kilograms of freight.
It also has a limit. Below a certain wall thickness, top-load performance, panel rigidity and the premium feel in the hand degrade — so the work is finding the minimum that still meets the functional and perceptual requirements.

How we verify a lightweight pack still works
Every lightweighted construction is tested against the requirement it reduced: top-load and stacking tests for body walls, drop tests on the packed carton, leak tests at the closure, and a functional check on pump or airless dose. Without those tests, a lighter pack is just a thinner pack.

How much weight can a cosmetic bottle lose without losing quality?

Does a lighter pack still feel premium?
Up to a point. Wall rigidity and lid depth contribute more to perceived quality than raw weight on bottles, while jars rely more on weight. We test both a lightweight and a standard version where the positioning is premium.
Can lightweighting be combined with PCR content?
Yes, and the combination is efficient: less material per unit plus recycled material in that material. Thin walls at high recycled content should be drop and stacking tested.
